Bahia Principe Golf, the division of Grupo Piñero's Living Resorts business unit, which runs four golf courses in Mexico ad the Dominican Republic, announced that it will be hosting, for the first time, one of Latin America's most prestigious amateur competitions. The Latin American Golf Championship will be holding its XIIth edition from October 16th to the 18th at the Riviera Maya Golf Club, 25 km from the town of Tulum (Quintana Roo, Mexico).

About 140 players from more than 10 Latin American countries will participate in the 54-hole stroke-play tournament. Players will be welcomed with a cocktail at the end of the practice day, and the event will end after the third day with the award ceremony and the championship closing party. Running parallel to the individual competition, there will also be a four-player team competition, with each group representing a different country.

As far as the prizes are concerned, an award will be given to the absolute and pre-senior scratch champion; to the absolute handicap champions in four different categories (up to handicap 36); to the senior handicap champions in each category; and to the female handicap champion.

The participants will be lodged in two establishments owned by Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, the hotel division of Grupo Piñero's Living Resorts business unit: the Luxury Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an, a five-star, ‘adults-only’ establishment with more than 400 rooms, and the Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal, which also has 5 stars but is more family-oriented.

Vanessa Vignali, Corporate Director of Bahia Principe Golf, assured that she was “delighted to host this internationally renowned event, consolidating our position as one of the best golf courses in Latin America. Designed by Robert Trent Jones II, the Riviera Maya Golf Club, recently acknowledged by Golf Digest as being one of the best in Mexico and the Americas, is a jewel we couldn't be more proud of."

The Latin American Golf Championship has been held since 2007, with previous editions being held in Panama, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Venezuela or Paraguay.
