Grupo Piñero Creates a Strategic Alliance with Troon through Its Bahia Principe Golf Division
- With this agreement, the company aims to boost the penetration in the US and Canadian markets of its exclusive offer of experiences and golf in the Caribbean (Mexico and the Dominican Republic).
- This initiative, like the agreement it has already reached with the PGA of America, is part of its commitment to the creation of strategic alliances that guarantee its economic, environmental and social sustainability.
Palma de Mallorca, October 28, 2021 Grupo Piñero, a Spanish tourism company with more than 40 years of history, and its Bahia Principe Golf division, continues to advance in its commitment to the American market after the agreement it has just signed with Troon. The US-based company is considered the world's largest golf club management, development and marketing company, offering its services to more than 630 golf courses in more than 585 locations, 85 of which are among the top 100 in the USA.
Troon golf courses have hosted the PGA Tour, Ladies PGA Tour, Champions PGA and European PGA Tour championships.
In the words of Jaime Sitjar, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Bahia Principe Residences & Golf, “With this important agreement we seek to expand the penetration of our exclusive offer of experiences and golf in the Caribbean (Mexico and the Dominican Republic), within the North American market, one of the world's most important markets with 50 million people who practice this sport.” We are moving forward in our commitment to provide integral and unique experiences, to improve golf tourism in these destinations, and to contribute to the growth of this sport in our exclusive golf courses, respectful of the privileged natural environments in which they are located.
To this end, Troon will be in charge of marketing in the USA and Canada, strengthening Grupo Piñero's alliance with the PGA of America, and it will also provide consulting services to adapt the Group's establishments to the golf client, as well as other tasks aimed at promoting the development of its country clubs in the Caribbean.
Grupo Piñero currently has two major golf clubs in the Caribbean, with a total of 4 courses and 54 holes: PGA Riviera Maya Golf Club, a resort located in the Riviera Maya area, about 15 miles from the town of Tulum, Mexico, and PGA Oceans 4 Golf Club, located on the south coast of the Dominican Republic, about 60 miles east of Santo Domingo and 20 miles from the popular resort town of La Romana. These two are the first and only ones in Latin America to have the PGA of America seal of approval supporting the development of the sport and its linkage with tourism experiences.
Strategic Alliances for Sustainability
For Grupo Piñero, sustainable transformation is the key element for the economic, social and environmental reactivation that is currently needed. For this reason, as part of its strategic plan, it has launched several lines of work based on innovation, digital transformation and sustainability, including the search for strategic alliances. All this with the clear conviction that the main international frameworks promoted by the United Nations are an essential driver for Sustainable Development and Human Prosperity, with the Sustainable Development Goals as their guide.
Indeed, this agreement is part of our commitment to the creation of strategic alliances to guarantee sustainability in all its aspects. This is in addition to the agreement the company signed in January 2020 with the PGA of America to promote the practice of golf in the Caribbean by creating unique tourism experiences related to this sport. The PGA is one of the world’s most important international sports organizations thanks to its more than 29,000 members.
In addition, a few months ago the Group announced the creation of Soltour Travel Partners, a Soltour joint venture with Logitravel Group's Smytravel and an agreement with Qev Tech Holding to offer sustainable mobility solutions.
